Sony MDM-111 is an internal SCSI MiniDisc drive. Sound/MP3/Data etc.
The disc drives are not new, been around for years. For about 269
you can get an external MiniDisc data drive from Germany, and for about
fifty dollars you can purchase a sound card{,addon} with the appropriate
optical outputs for any recordable MiniDisc component.

Aside from Sony's new VAIO equipped with said internal MiniDisc drive,
mad amounts of kudo's to anyone that can find a place to purchase this
internal drive. Sony MDM-111 is the info, go figure from above. Google
is worthless, and noone on ebay is selling one (which is expected,
becuase I doubt any of those bozos even know what one is.) pricewatch
doesn't show up with anything. Being on a weekend, I haven't tried to
contact Sony's massive phone tree to see if I could purchase a replace-
ment part for said 3000 dollar VAIO *the MDM-111 is the one used in that
machine from what I have gathered in my research, its also very old the
MDM-111 was first released by Sony in the mid 90's.... yet noone has
one.* There is a MDM-10, an external MD drive more attracted than the
implied German drive mentioned above. It connects to your computer via
PCMCIA. Its crap, who cares about an external MD device, just by a
regular portable MD player/recorder and have at it. Implying
portability with its PCMICIA connection, a huge amount of kudos for
anyone that can even identify the part number for the internal MD
data drive for Sony notebooks, that are only sold in Britian and
Hong Kong, possibly Japan as well. I'm hoping some of you fluent in
foriegn languages can look into the respective portions of e-commerce,
because in the English speaking world finding these devices are
proving to be impossible yet I know somewhere on this vast planet they
are selling them. If anyone here HAS an internal MD data drive and
is willing to sell it, please contact me.

Thanks!
