Recommended Mac OS/X virtual machine program?

Anyone have any experience with running a virtual machine under Mac
OSX? I actually want to run an older version of Mac OSX (10.6.8, snow
leopard with OS9 support) under a newer version.

Suggestions, options, search terms, etc. all appreciated.

Free is great but willing to pay for the right program.

Thanks,

Rich

I've used both VirtualBox and VM Fusion. Both work fairly well
(although you might want to check if VirtualBox supports running Mac
OS as a guest).

I have never had good results, though, with VirtualBox using a USB
mass storage device mapped directly into the guest. If you're not
planning on doing that, you may find it works fine for you.

Every time I see my MacOS buddies, I say
"The only thing that's good about an Apple machine is that you can
install Linux on it"

And then they just smile...

I believe VMWare Fusion is the go-to solution for virtualization on the Mac.

But I doubt that Mac OS can be run on a virtual machine at all. Could be wrong about that.

VMWare Fusion officially supports it:

Mac OS X, OS X, or macOS virtual machines that you create in Fusion
can run on any Apple-branded hardware that uses Intel processors.
The Apple licensing agreement defines the situations when it is
permissible to virtualize Mac OS X, OS X, or macOS. Fusion does not
change these terms or enable macOS on non-Apple hardware. You
cannot use a Mac OS X, OS X, or macOS virtual machine in another
VMware product, such as Workstation Pro.

Been awhile since I've looked at virtualization on MacOS.

Besides VMware Fusion,
Parallels might also support.

"They" say, virtualbox will do it so that'll be my first try.

Thanks to all!

I'll let you know how it works out.

Virtualbox supposedly does it, but YMMV. VMware Fusion does it, but you
gotta pay. I use vbox on OSX high sierra daily, but to spin up Windows and
Linux.
